Cheese Grits Recipe

Creamy and cheesy grits made with simple ingredients for a comforting dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water or broth
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or preferred
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional Add-Ins & Toppings:
  • Cooked bacon or sausage
  • Shrimp or grilled chicken
  • Jalapeños or hot sauce
  • Extra cheese or herbs
  • Garlic or onion powder

Method
 

  1. Bring liquid to a boil.
  2. Add grits while whisking.
  3. Cook and stir until thick.
  4. Add milk and butter.
  5. Stir in cheese until melted.
  6. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Whisk to avoid lumps
  • Stir frequently while cooking
  • Add liquid if too thick
  • Best served hot and fresh
