Garam Masala Recipe

A traditional Indian spice blend made from toasted whole spices.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 2 bay leaves optional

Method
 

  1. Heat a dry pan over medium heat.
  2. Add all spices and toast until fragrant.
  3. Let spices cool completely.
  4. Grind into a fine powder.
  5. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Toast gently to avoid burning
  • Use whole spices for the best flavor
  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Make small batches for freshness
