General Tso’s Chicken Recipe

Crispy fried chicken tossed in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • Chicken:
  • 1 lb chicken bite-sized pieces
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Sauce:
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with water
  • Chili flakes to taste

Method
 

  1. Season and coat chicken with egg and cornstarch.
  2. Fry at 350°F until crispy.
  3. Sauté garlic and ginger.
  4. Add sauce ingredients and simmer.
  5. Thicken with cornstarch slurry.
  6. Toss chicken in sauce.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Fry in batches for crispiness
  • Adjust spice level
  • Add sauce just before serving
  • Best served fresh
