Mussels Recipe

Tender mussels steamed in a flavorful garlic, butter, and white wine broth finished with fresh herbs and lemon.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds fresh mussels cleaned and debearded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small shallot finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 crusty baguette sliced for serving

Method
 

  1. Rinse and clean mussels removing any beards.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot.
  3. Cook shallot and garlic until fragrant.
  4. Pour in white wine and simmer briefly.
  5. Add mussels and cover the pot.
  6. Steam 5–7 minutes until mussels open.
  7. Stir in parsley and lemon juice.
  8. Serve immediately with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Discard mussels that do not open after cooking
  • Use fresh seafood for the best flavor
  • Do not overcook the mussels
  • Add cream for a richer sauce
  • Serve immediately while hot
