Spanakopita Recipe

A classic Greek dish made with layers of phyllo dough and a savory spinach and feta filling.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 sheets phyllo dough
  • 2 cups fresh spinach chopped
  • 1 cup feta cheese crumbled
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

  1. Sauté onion in olive oil until soft.
  2. Add garlic and spinach and cook until wilted.
  3. Mix with feta, eggs, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer phyllo sheets in a baking dish brushing each with oil.
  5. Add filling evenly.
  6. Top with remaining phyllo layers.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Keep phyllo covered while working
  • Drain spinach well
  • Use multiple layers for crisp texture
  • Best reheated in the oven for crispiness
